Vancouver, B. C.-based Taro has launched a series of clinical trials in men with erectile dysfunction (ED) with Taro's proprietary sildenafil citrate, which treats pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), erectile dysfunction (ED), and benign prostatic hyperplasia (ED+BPH).
Sildenafil citrate is the active ingredient in Taro's original drug, Viagra, and is used to treat the condition of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) as a treatment for ED and ED+BPH. The drug is approved for use in patients aged 18 and over and for men with PAH.
Taro is also in discussions with the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and is expected to submit its final drug approval in the second half of this year. Taro's Viagra (sildenafil citrate) is an over-the-counter prescription-only medicine.
The ED drugs are taken orally, either with or without meals, and the Taro-branded Viagra is a convenient and fast-acting option for men with ED.
Taro has a patent for Taro and is not disclosing the price of the Viagra. Taro said the Viagra is available at a "promotional fee" of $9.99 for a supply of 25, 50, and 100 tablets, and at $7.99 for a supply of 30, 25, and 20 tablets.
The Taro-branded Viagra is also manufactured by Taro and is available in a range of dosages and price options.
The FDA approved Viagra in February 2020, with marketing of the drug in March of the same year, according to Taro. The drug is available in the following dosages: 25 mg, 50 mg, 100 mg, 200 mg, and 400 mg.
Taro's original patent for Taro expired in August 2019. The company is not disclosing the price of the original Viagra, but Taro is supplying the original in a range of dosages and in a price that's "unusually low" and "low" to consumers.
Taro has partnered with Tenderay to promote the company's erectile dysfunction and BPH drugs. According to Tenderay, the partnership has also featured the company's "BlueChew" offering for $3.99 for 30 tablets of Taro-branded Viagra and $1.99 for a 30-day supply of BlueChew Viagra.
